Welcome to Inwood House, a family owned residential care home in Horbury, West Yorkshire, just 3 miles from the popular city of Wakefield.

Inwood House is home to 55 residents, who receive support and care from our fifty experienced staff. Our scenic gardens and peaceful location provide our residents with a pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere.

Having owned Inwood House since 1983, we continually strive to provide and outstanding level of care to our residents. As a result, we are proud to have achieved the internationally acclaimed BS EN ISO 9001:2008 quality standard, as well as be recognised to have an excellent 5 star food hygiene rating and received a “Good” rating from the Care Quality Commission.

About us

Inwood House is set in very attractive landscaped gardens situated close to the centre of Horbury approximately two miles from Wakefield. The home is close to many local amenities; post office, various shops, local park. We have ample parking for visitors.

Inwood has been a Care Home since 1983.

The Home meets or exceeds all current guidelines as laid down by the Care Quality Commission. The Home is on two levels, with two lifts to assist people to have maximum freedom. All the rooms have wheelchair access and all the facilities have been created especially for the elderly through the provision of ramps, hand and grab rails etc.

Philosophy of care

The Home places great emphasis on the residents individuality and personality. Clients are encouraged to take a positive attitude towards their abilities and are encouraged to continue with their present skills and, where possible, learn new ones. The Home is totally committed to a high quality service to their clients and undertakes full Care Planning and Key Working.

Care levels are of the highest standards, with the clients enjoying a "Charter of Rights

The Management of the Home are completely dedicated to a policy of continuing improvement in all operational areas.  To this end staff skills and training is given a high priority, with a formal induction programme, in-house training sessions, external study courses and the NVQ process.

The Home is equipped to meet all the requirements of a modern residential home and offers the highest standards of personalised care to the residents.  The Home has achieved an excellent reputation with local practitioners.  Much of the business received by the Home is as a direct result of the many recommendations based on excellent service.

Inwood House is registered with the Care Quality Commision (CQC) as a Care Home providing care and accommodation to persons over 65 years of age.

The Home achieved the prestigious and highly regarded quality standard BS EN ISO 9001:2008 for the care and accommodation of the elderly.

The aim of the home is to offer the residents the opportunity to enhance their quality of life by providing a safe, manageable and comfortable environment, plus support and stimulation to help individuals to maximise their potential physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

Meet the Team

Wendy & Richard Barraclough

Inwood House is owned by Wendy & Richard Barraclough. They have owned and operated "Inwood" since 1983, they have a wealth of experience in caring for the elderly, meeting their needs and expectations. Through their daily personal contact they assure that all the clients personal needs are met.

Deborah Nightingale

Deborah Nightingale is the Care Manager at Inwood House. She has worked for the company since 1986 and has gained not only formal qualifications in Care Home Management but has achieved an enviable reputation for her professionalism.

Our dedicated staff

The Home currently employs fifty dedicated staff including carers, cooks and domestic staff, the large majority who have been with the company many years. As such they are not only well trained but have become very experienced in Care for the Elderly and those who may suffer from dementia.
